Mary Frances “Peggy” Ellsworth was born on March 9, 1926 and left us on September 27, 2010. She leaves behind her beloved husband, Donald, and children Gary, Cindy, David and their families.
Born in Carbondale, Colorado to Mary and John Colohan, she had four brothers and one sister. Peggy grew up in family of writers. Her father had many stories in national publications including The Anthology of American Literature. Her uncle, Francis Colohan, was the editor of a large newspaper. She attended Denver University and, in keeping with family tradition, majored in journalism. Peggy worked as a newspaper reporter in the Glenwood Springs/Carbondale, Colorado area and earned the title of “Scoop” Colohan from coworkers and family.
Peggy married Donald Ellsworth on June 25, 1949, a loving marriage for 61 years. They moved to Ogden, Utah in 1951, and Peggy worked at the Second Street Naval Depot until her children were born. A devoted stay-at-home Mom, she was a room mother, driver, teachers assistant, homework mentor, typing class savior, and avid child’s athletics fan. She was the always the “loudest fan in the stands” for innumerable football games, cheerleading, and swim and track meets.
She returned to work at the Ogden office of the US Forest Service. Peggy subsequently transferred to the Civil Engineering Housing Office at Hill AFB where she earned several Pleasant Person Plaudit awards for outstanding, friendly customer service.
Peggy was a true Irishman, known for her sense of humor, and a rabid, original Denver Broncos fan. As a result, her 2 favorite colors were Green and “BlueandOrange.” She was preceded in passing by Debra (her daughter), Mary Hancock (her mother), John Colohan (her father), and Johnny Colohan (her brother). Peggy was extremely passionate about discussing politics with her mother and brother and has probably started a serious discussion with both of them already.
She is survived by husband Donald, sons David, and Gary (and his wife Toni, daughter Hillary and son Tyler), and daughter Cindy (and her husband Bruce Joel (BJ), and son Dustin). Her zest for life and the twinkle in her eyes is missed by all who knew her.
A private viewing will be held in Ogden. Interment will be at Rosebud Cemetery, Glenwood Springs, Colorado.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
