Mary Ione Poulsen Fowler Fisher

Our generous and loving mother, Mary Ione Poulsen Fowler Fisher, returned home to her Heavenly Father on Monday, March 17, 2014. She was the daughter of Frank and Mary Christopherson Poulsen.  Mary was born in Spanish Fork on Dec 6, 1934 where she spent her early childhood and later moved to Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School. Mary married Lewis Fowler on April 14, 1953 and was later sealed in the LDS temple on Dec 21, 1955. They started their married life in Salt Lake, but later lived in Bountiful and Farmington.

In 1991 Mary married Merle Otis Fisher and settled in Layton. Following Merle’s retirement from Hill Air Force Base, they served an LDS mission to Berlin, Germany from 2004-2005. Unfortunately, their mission ended a year early due to Merle being diagnosed with cancer. He passed away on Sept 21, 2005.

Mary loved her children and God with her whole being. Mary dedicated her life to serving others. Mary enjoyed her numerous callings in the LDS church. Through media and fund raising Mary made it possible for a neighbor to have one of the first heart transplants. Mary taught through example the virtue of being a hard worker. While raising her children Mary sold Avon, Sandak Sandals, real estate, where she quickly became a member of the Million Dollar Club, started and worked as broker of Omni Realty .  Mary developed the Layton subdivision she made her home, and designed two custom homes which were premiered in the Parade of Homes.

Mary is survived by Diane Poulsen Titze, her caring and loving sister.  Seven children: Frank (Debra) Fowler, Mary Lou (Clay) Robinson, Mindy Twibey, Holly (Michael) Lloyd, Chris (Paul) Moon, James (Danielle) Fowler, William (Starr) Fowler. Step-children: Todd, Dawn, Lyle, Amy, James and Mary Fisher, the best 22 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren any one could ask for.  Mary had many nieces and nephews whom she cared about deeply.  Mary loved to travel and vacation with family, which left us with very special memories. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Stan Poulsen, and her eternal mate.

A very special thanks to Legacy Village in Layton.  They cared for her, with more love and kindness than anyone could ask.  The nurses at Aspire Hospice were also true angels in our time of need.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Farmington City Cemetery, 500 S. 200 E., Farmington. Following will be a celebration to share memories of Mary at the Orchard Ward House, 3707 S. 800 W., Bountiful.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the LDS missionary fund or the Utah Alzheimers Association.
