KAYSVILLE – Mary Verdell Taylor Holt, age 95, passed away Friday, January 30, 2015 of natural causes. She was born May 26, 1919 in Grace, Idaho to Wilford G. and Arby Sant Taylor and was the oldest of three children.
As a young girl, she took dancing lessons, tap and ballet, and was very accomplished at both. But her real talent was a beautiful singing voice. During her Jr. High and High School years, she had the lead in most of the operettas and plays. She attended schools in Salt Lake City and graduated from West High School. This is where she met Kenneth Holt (Ken), and after a year’s courtship, they were married in the Lion House in Salt Lake City on August 5, 1938. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She and Ken were married for 57 years before he passed away in 1995.
Mom and dad enjoyed traveling and visited several different countries. They owned a summer home near West Yellowstone, Montana where they spent a lot of summer months. Many family vacations centered around the Yellowstone “cabin.” She liked to read, crochet, and was a great bridge player. She loved chocolate, her pet cats, and a good joke.
Mom was an active member of the Kaysville 8 th Ward and had a strong testimony of the gospel. She served in many callings: Primary President, Counselor in the Relief Society, and Temple Ordinance Worker in the Ogden and Bountiful Temples.
She is survived by a son, Gordon K. (Nancy) Holt, Syracuse; daughters Claudia (Lue) McCann, Riverdale, Rebecca (Dave) Peart, Pagosa Springs, CO; eight grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Fay (Earl) Howell of Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Earl Taylor.
For the past 6 ½ years, mom has been a resident of the Apple Tree Assisted Living Center in Kaysville, UT where she made many special friends. Our family extends a special thank you to Apple Tree for their loving care, and also to the Washington Terrace Care Center for their kindness and help during the last week of her life.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 North Main. Friends may visit family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
Mom was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. We will miss her so very much.
