Mary Hughes

January 1, 1955 — March 4, 2020

Mary Irene Nielsen Hughes

January 1, 1955 ~ March 4, 2020

Mary passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday March 4, 2020 at Davis Hospital and Medical Center.

She was born on January 1, 1955 to Leonard A. and Gloria May Wadman, the oldest of five children. She was raised in Sunset, Utah attending Sunset Elementary, Jr. High and Clearfield High School.

On July 31, 1972, she married her life companion, Kerry N. Nielsen. After Kerry’s passing in 1997, she married Billy D. Hughes on March 6, 2001. Taking care of and loving her through good and bad until her death.

She was mostly a homemaker/stay at home mom but had worked for the schools in the cafeteria along with local bakeries where she made good friends and enjoyed what she did.

One of the few people that can take a bare cupboard and make a decent meal for six and two hunting dogs. Her greatest achievement was being a Grandma, she would make it perfectly clear that grandkids home rules didn’t apply at Grandma’s including her “Angel Coffee” that was the grandkids favorite. She also never left anyone out when it came to fun time making sure everyone had a great time and got spoiled.

Her favorite time of the year was spring time when she would open the windows and smell the Russian olive trees blossoming. She also loved going to Wendover playing the slot machines.

She is survived by her husband, Billy D. Hughes, children, Kerry “Cass” Nielsen (Lisa), Amanda Lynn Vernon (Wes), Cody Anthoney Nielsen (Mindy), Clayton “Travis” Nielsen (Melissa) and step children Chad Tiffany and Tasha Hughes; sisters, Cindy S. Coy, Sandy Stucki, along with 19 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Kerry, her parents, brothers, Lamar and Leonard “Butch” Wadman, niece, Jessica Dawn Stucki, nephews, Jerimiah Stucki, Jason Ray Wadman.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Davis Hospital and Medical Center I.C.U. for their exceptional care and comfort they gave to the family through this difficult time.
