Mary Jane Steed Eckman “Jane”, age 100, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2023. The Eckman family has lost their wonderful, loving, and caring matriarch. And the world lost another member of the greatest generation.
Jane was born in Luray, VA on March 4, 1923 to Harvey and Martha Steed. She was the eldest of four daughters.
On August 11, 1943 Jane married the love of her life, Joe Eckman. Together they began the adventure of building a legacy consisting of four children, 13 grandchildren, and many great and great-great grandchildren. At the time of his death in 2017 Joe and Jane had spent 74 loving years together. Jane has greatly missed his companionship since.
In 1958 Joe and Jane moved their family to Layton, UT where they raised their children.
Jane loved to cook and spent many years working as a cook in a Chinese restaurant where she became skilled in the art of Chinese cuisine. Later in life, after Joe retired, they moved to Nevada, eventually settling down in Overton. On March 4, 2023 Jane turned a remarkable 100 years old becoming a centenarian.
Jane was a devoted wife and mother finding joy and happiness in the successes of her husband, children, and grandchildren. She always encouraged everyone around her to be the best they could possibly be and was the number one cheerleader for friends and family alike.
Jane was a member of Calvary Community Church.
Jane was preceded in death by both parents, her loving husband, all of her siblings, one son, and one great-great granddaughter.
