Mary Ellen Lebar

April 27, 1930 ~ February 12, 2018

Mary Ellen Lebar, age 87, passed away on February 12, 2018 at Mountain Ridge Assisted Living from complications of a fall.

Mary Ellen was born on April 27, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Joseph and Mary Borzaga Francis.

Mary Ellen moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1934, and graduated from Rock Springs High School in 1948. She married Jack P. Lebar on October 30, 1954 in Everett, Washington. He passed away on November 4, 1990.

Mary Ellen and Jack moved to Ogden, Utah in 1957. She began working as a teller for the Bank of Utah, retiring in 1989 after 32 years of service. After Jack’s death, she returned to work for Washington Mutual Bank until 1995.

Mary Ellen’s interests included organizing and financial budgeting; she could make a single dollar stretch forever. She also loved holidays spent with her family. At Christmas, everyone looked forward to her fruitcake and special sugar cookies that she generously shared with family and friends. On Easter, she always had fun coloring eggs with her grandchildren and participating in the annual family egg hunt. Fourth of July barbeques were a summer favorite where she enjoyed potato salad and watching fireworks from the front porch.

Mary Ellen was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in South Ogden.

Surviving are her two daughters, Jacqueline (Andrew) Favero, Ogden and Karla (Bret) Edsinger, Riverdale; two grandchildren, Alexander P. Favero, Salt Lake City and Sara (Ryan) Jensen, Smithfield; one sister, Katherine (Kay) Crawford, Harrisville; and her dog, Emmy.

A private family service was held honoring Mary Ellen on Friday, February 23, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1100 East 5550 South, South Ogden. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to those who cared for Mom with kindness, love, and dignity, and to those whose visits never failed to brighten her day; to the staff of Inspiration Hospice, Donette, Dianna, Jenny, Keri, Elaine, and Gerri, Mountain Ridge Assisted Living, especially the CNAs and Med Techs; Dr. John Armstrong, Kathy, and Jody; and friends Patrice Behunin and Loyd “Gus” Gustaveson.

In lieu of flowers, Mom requests you spend time with someone you haven’t seen in awhile. Mom always believed the gestures people make when you are alive far outweigh anything that can be done after you are gone.
