Mary Margaret Webb Hunter
December 28, 1924 ~ January 9, 2017
Mary Margaret Webb Hunter passed away Monday evening, January 9, 2017, in her home from natural causes. Margaret was born to Archibald George Henry and Margaret Thomson Webb in Salt Lake City, Utah on December 28, 1924; she was the youngest of six children and the only daughter. Margaret grew up in the Avenues of Salt Lake City and spent her summers on the family homestead in Skull Valley. After graduating from East High School, she attended the University of Utah. During her time at the University, she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority and met her future husband at a Sigma Chi dance. On June 4, 1945 Margaret married Daniel Clyde Hunter Jr. in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Margaret and Dan moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where Dan completed his surgical residency training and remained as a faculty member of the University of Michigan Medical School. During their fourteen years in Michigan, they were blessed with seven of their ten children. In 1960, the family moved to Ogden, Utah where Margaret and Dan lived out their lives.
Margaret was an active member in the Ogden community. She served on the Ogden Symphony Board, the Weber County Women’s Medical Auxiliary Board, was a member of the Ladies Literary Club, and was an important participant and active investor in revitalizing 25th Street in Ogden.
Margaret was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served as president and in leadership callings in the Relief Society and Young Women’s organizations. Margaret and Dan served as Church Service Missionaries and in the Ogden LDS Temple for over a decade. She and Dan both loved and treasured the relationships built and maintained through a gospel oriented “Study Group,” which met formally monthly and constituted their core network of close friends after their return to Utah.
Margaret is survived by their ten children, Daniel C. (Beverly) Hunter III, M. Kathryn Alldredge, David W. (Carol) Hunter (first wife Sandy, deceased), Karen H. (Walter) Kunz, R. Christopher (Mary Rae) Hunter, M. Susan Hunter, Rebecca H. (Mich) Oki, J. Scott (Carolynn) Hunter, Curtis T. (Kelly) Hunter, and Joseph A. Hunter. They have 35 grandchildren and 61 great-grandchildren to date. She was preceded in death by her husband Dan.

The family wishes to especially recognize Judie Sholly who became one of mother’s closest friends through years of service and loyalty. Your example of unwavering love of our mother, hard work and integrity instantly endeared you to our family and enriched us all. We would also like to thank those who helped extensively in mother’s last months and days: Rhonda Personette and Lynda Gibson. You made a real difference to mother and our family.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the LDS Church’s Perpetual Education Fund.
