Mary Verna Peterson Marker
April 20, 1922 ~ December 15, 2016
Mary Verna Peterson Marker, our beloved sweet mother, returned to our Heavenly Father on December 15, 2016. She was welcomed into the loving arms of her sweetheart, Jim, and their youngest child, Douglas.
She was born on April 20, 1922 to Joseph and Mary Peterson. She was raised in Huntsville, the youngest daughter and ninth of ten children.
At the end of World War II, she married her sweetheart, C. James Marker. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 6, 1946. They raised their 7 children in North Ogden.
Mary was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She always served where she was called, whether in Sunday School or Primary. She especially enjoyed working in the Special Needs Primary for many years. She and Jim served two missions together: the New Zealand Temple and Ogden Inner City. Jim and Mary served as ordinance workers in the Ogden LDS Temple for many years and loved serving there. They loved their Savior Jesus Christ.
Mary and Jim were always a great support to family members on their special occasions. Together they made many sacrifices for their family. They knew much of pain and sorrow but most importantly the joy and happiness of family and righteous living. They loved spending time together and were always holding hands. Our sweet mother, the last in our family of the "greatest generation" has truly gone "home for Christmas."
She loved music. Mary and Jim sang in the ward choir together for many years. Mary was very creative and artistic. She was a beautiful seamstress making many clothes for her family. She also made many beautiful quilts, loved to crochet and was a gifted artist creating many oil paintings. She loved dolls and had a large collection of them. Jim and Mary labored side by side doing yard work, growing a beautiful garden, canning the fruits and vegetables, often giving the best away to family and friends.
Mary is survived by two sons: J. Dale Marker (Tina), David L. Marker; daughters: Ellen Holt (Howard), Kathleen Mecham (Lowell), Audrey Larsen (Steve, deceased), and Debra Warden (Keith); brother-in-law, George Marker of Dayton, Ohio; 30 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband, Jim; son, Douglas; son-in-law, Steve Larsen; five brothers, and four sisters and their spouses.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the North Ogden 7th Ward Chapel, 205 E Elberta Dr. The family will meet with friends on Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:00 PM at Lindquist North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N Washington Blvd, and Thursday prior to services from 9:30 to 10:30 at the Church. Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS mission or humanitarian funds.
The family would like to express much appreciation to Legacy House of Ogden for the wonderful care they gave mom for the past two years.
