Mary Garcia Mendez

January 9, 1929 — August 31, 2024

Roy

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully at her home on August 31, 2024. She was born on January 9,1929, to Jose and Emma Garcia in Aguilar, Colorado. Her father served in the United States Army and was stationed in Colorado, Wyoming, California, and finally Utah were her family made their final home.

She graduated from Davis High School, and she received an associate’s degree from Weber State University.

On July 3,1948, Mary married the love of her life Ruben Mendez. They shared 60 wonderful years together.

She retired from the Defense Mapping Agency, and she also worked for El Matador Restaurant.

Mary was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish. She was the Director of Religious Education and taught for over 60 years. Preparing the children of St Mary’s for the sacrament of Holy Communion was her greatest joy!

Her greatest treasure was her family! She loved spending time with them. She loved her grandchildren so much, and her face would light up when she saw them! Mary loved trips to Wendover, and she also loved playing the lottery. She looked forward to her monthly trips to Fraklin, Idaho with her dear friend Lynette. Mary was the biggest Norte Dame football fan and never missed a game. Anyone who was lucky enough to know Mary will forever be grateful for the time spent with her.

Mary is survived by her children Marcus (Dawn) Mendez, Michael Mendez, Joseph (Suzie) Mendez, Nancy (Darren) Lamont, eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. She is also survived by her loving sister Helen Singh, her brother-in-law Adolpho Mendez, four special grandson-in-laws, one granddaughter-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ruben, her brothers Lee and Quentin, sisters Isabel, Virginia and Lila, her grandson Brandon, and her daughter- in- law Suzanne.

The family would like to thank Canyon Home Care and Hospice and Amada Senior Care for the wonderful care they gave our mother.
