Mary Myrl Mueller

October 15, 1924 – April 13, 2019

Mary “Mamsy”, “Magnanimous” Mueller died Saturday morning, April 13, 2019 at Beehive Homes in Draper. She was a wonderful mother to LynnDee and Sammy, who died 25 years ago and a loving spouse to Hugo who left us 7 years ago. She and LynnDee were best friends and they shared a very special bond, but Mary had an abundance of love and kindness to share with everyone she knew, including her Ivey/Mueller family, LynnDee’s friends, her amazing caregivers and pretty much everyone she met.  She lived with dementia for 17 years, lost her sight, hearing, teeth and more recently her ability to walk but she never let her deficits determine her demeanor. She remained the pleasant, grateful, gentle, beautiful person she had always been. She had the enviable and admirable trait of squeezing joy out of every opportunity that came her way. When she was able, she rarely missed any of LynnDee’s performances and traveled to gigs with her out of town. They loved their shopping trips, especially to NPS.   She enjoyed golfing and her favorite club was her 5 iron. It also turned out she was a savvy investor buying shares in Ben Lomand golf course in Ogden 50 years ago. Before Hugo died, you would find both sitting in their Clearfield driveway visiting with neighbors, family and friends. They always had lots of celebrations for holidays, birthdays and really any occasion. She loved to be surrounded by her family and friends. But even when she went into Memory Care and was less able, she participated in activities like balloon badminton and savored her desserts, ice cream, chocolate and treats anytime, day or night. She hugged LynnDee’s arm while she fed her frozen yogurt a week and a half ago and even though she could no longer speak, the look on her face expressed the deep adoration she had for her daughter.

So many of you were lucky like me to have known Mary through your friendships with LynnDee. I know we all have fond memories and funny stories we will share forever. Mary was funny, witty as hell, a prolific romance novel reader, golfer, softball coach, wily shopper, wedding planner, furniture store owner and a huge fan and cheerleader of all LynnDee’s pursuits, especially her musical career.  She touched so many lives and gave us the wonderful gift of her unconditional love, approval and kindness. Even when her memory failed and she couldn’t remember our names you wouldn’t know it because she would kiss your hand, give a smile and with that small gesture she would fill our hearts with her love.
She had many ups and downs but despite all the adversity she soldiered on because she loved loving and could still appreciate even the smallest of joys. When she was no longer able, she slipped away quickly and peacefully, surrounded by LynnDee, Bobby Ivey, nephew, his wife Sheryl, me, many caregivers who adored her and our good friend Aelia Alvarez. She left a huge hole and the world is dimmer without her. She lived and loved for 94 ½ years. She will be missed.

She is preceded in death by her son Sammy and her husband Hugo.  She is survived by her daughter LynnDee (Marie), her nephews who she treated like sons, Bob Ivey (Sheryl) and Bill Ivey (Nancy), cousin Lonny Smart (Wendy) and many loving relatives and friends, many of whom she regarded as family.

We would like to thank the amazing caregivers at Beehive Homes in Draper and Signature Hospice.
