Mary Yoshiko Oda

Mary Yoshiko Oda, 77, passed away of natural causes on Friday, May 25, 2018. She was born in Los Angeles, CA, on June 11, 1940, the daughter of Yoshio and Fumiko Horiuchi. When she was young the family moved to Layton, Utah where she was raised.

She married Jimmy Oda on February 11, 1961 after knowing him since grade school. They eloped to Elko, Nevada and then settled in Layton, Utah where they raised three girls.

Mary had a Christian belief. She enjoyed long drives with family, camping, and was never without a book or Kindle in hand.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Shelly Oda, Dina (Scott) Allen, and Carrilyn Oda; granddaughters, Megan and Alexa Allen; brothers, George, Dick (Judy) and Jun (Carol) Horiuchi; and sister, Dorothy (Ted) Kondo. She was preceded in death by her parents Yoshio and Fumiko Horiuchi; and her sister Sophi Yamashiro.

Per Mary’s request, no public services will be held.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of McKay Dee Hospital, Stonehenge, and CNS Hospice, and everyone else who had a place in celebrating Mary’s life.
