1922-2017

GREAT FALLS, MONTANA – Mary Mildred (Kuka) Pitts, 94, a longtime resident of Sapphire Village, passed away from natural causes February 18, 2017at Benefis Hospital, in Great Falls, Montana.

She was born on August 21, 1922, in Boswell, Pennsylvania, to Mary and John Kuka.  Shortly afterwards, her family moved to Masarktown, Florida where she grew up with her two sisters Ann and Helen.

On May 4, 1952 she married a dashing Air Force airman, Glenn Grant Pitts, at McDill Air Force Base, in Tampa, Florida.  As a proud military spouse, she raised her family in a variety of locations including Fairford, England; Great Falls, Montana; and Spokane, Washington before she and Glenn retired and moved to Sapphire Village in 1973.

Mary was an avid rock hound collecting fascinating specimens throughout Montana.  She enjoyed faceting gems and designing jewelry.  She also loved to cook and bake and would often share her culinary talents with neighbors and friends.  Mary was an active member of the Utica Women’s Club and could be found at their regular gatherings, always with a pie or cake.

Mary is survived by her sister Ann Mattatall; daughters Sondra Hudson, Jeannie Brockhausen, Ann Gillett, and Janice Vincent; son Stephen Pitts; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenn, her husband of 55 years preceded her in death as did her brother Andy Kuka and sister Helen Sherrill.

A life celebration  will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Saturday from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband, Glenn.
