Mary Eulalia G. Rodarte
Our beloved Mother, Mary Eulalia G. Rodarte passed away at 98 years old, peacefully in her home on Saturday, February 19, 2022.
Mary was born January 1st, 1924 to Joe Guzman and Ramona Vallejos in Trinidad, Colorado. She moved to Utah when she was 18 years old and has called Layton, home, ever since. She was a vibrant, strong woman who, through hard work and determination, raised her seven children.
She was involved in the Community Action Program in the role of Spanish interpreter, assisting many families to get the resources they needed. After, she worked for the Utah Department of Social Services and retired from there in 1988.
She was as tough as nails but would give you the shirt off of her back. She showed her love by giving whatever she had at the time to anyone in need. That was the spirit of who she was. She loved spending time with all of her grandchildren and welcoming the newly born babies into the family. If you came for a visit, the first thing she would ask you was “Are you hungry?” She enjoyed cooking, crocheting, quilting, playing solitaire, puzzles, and especially, tending to her garden.
She held a deep faith in God since she was a child and was a devout parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She always gave credit to God for sustaining her throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and siblings, Jenny, Sadie, Frank, Felix, Manuel, Joe, Steven, and Jacob.
She is survived by her sister Veronica (Warner)Leach, children: Frank Rodarte, Victor (Angie) Rodarte, Larue (Tom) Majeski, Martin (Mercy) Rodarte, Debra Layton, Joyce Franich, Amy Martinez, and countless beloved, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was the matriarch of our family, our cornerstone, and will be greatly missed.
We would like to thank the Intermountain Hospice team for the excellent care they provided. Their invaluable support allowed her to stay in her home, surrounded by her loved one’s. Also, many thanks to the local Meals-On-Wheels program for providing lunch to her on a daily basis.
