Mary Charlton Thurgood Together Again
CLEARFIELD a" Mary C. Thurgood, 89, died August 3, 2007 at her son''s home in Grantsville. She spent most of her life as a resident of Clearfield, Utah. She was born March 24, 1918 in West Weber to Thomas Etherington and Isabell Skeen Charlton. She was married to Russell Thurgood June 25, 1937 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Mary was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints having served as a Primary President and teacher. She also served in the Junior Sunday School and Gleaner organizations. She was involved in music being chorister of every organization in her ward. She served as a temple worker for 10 years in the Ogden Temple and was actively involved in temple work all of her life. She enjoyed her association with the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Ogden Literary Club. She worked for Safeway Grocery for 10 years and First Security Bank for 20 years. Mary loved to travel, camp, and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her children Dennis (Kay) Thurgood, Kaysville; Ronald (Bobbie) Thurgood, Ephraim; Carole Garlitz, Kaysville; Connie Wright, West Point; and Stephen (Mary Lynn) Thurgood, Grantsville; 32 grandchildren, 90 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Faye (Myron) Sessions, Elaine (Ernie) Brown and three brothers, Paul (Ruth) Charlton, Junior Charlton, and Wayne (Barbara) Charlton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Thurgood, her parents, two sisters, three brothers, and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 8, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield 3rd Ward Chapel, 350 N. Vine, Clearfield. Friends and family may call Tuesday, August 7, 2007 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Clearfield Mortuary, 1050 S. State and Wednesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Clearfield 3rd Ward prior to the service.
Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of Apple Tree Assisted Living and Comfort Care Hospice, especially Mary''s great-granddaughter Krystalyn Wright, for the loving care they gave to our mother.
