Mattman, as his fans called him, tragically passed away at Rockport State Park on July 21, 2022. Matt was our superhero. He could fix anything. He was a constant researcher, and he knew everything about everything, though he was genuinely humble and never paraded his skills. He loved nerdy, random facts and was an amateur scientist. Everything had the potential to be an experiment. Matt loved to travel and experience the world, never missing an opportunity to do so, and even chose a profession that supported this love.
Matt was born in West Valley City to Debra and John Britton and raised in West Jordan, UT where he enjoyed tormenting his younger brother Christopher, as older brothers do. Matt married Elise Britton (later divorced) and together welcomed two beautiful boys into the world, Isaac and Arthur. Matt’s passion was loving people. His boys won the lottery by having Matt as their daddy. Matt loved playing with his sons and teaching them how do to all sorts of things. He loved building projects with them. He was always patient, kind, and willing to give them his attention. He was adored and admired by his boys.
Matt was a calming influence to everyone around him. He was gentle and big-hearted. He always put others first. Matt could invariably be found in the background taking care of the details to make sure everyone else was comfortable. Matt was an observer. He was quiet, reserved, and unassuming and used these qualities to disguise his impish nature and penchant for playful pranks.
Matt was the perfect soul mate and life partner for Rebecca. He was her perfect compliment. He saw to her every possible need, whether it be coffee delivery, travel itinerary, restaurant plans, love notes and all the inconspicuous honey-do needs. Matt spent every day making sure Rebecca knew how much he loved her.
Matt will be immensely missed. The world is a different place without him, and those who loved him will never be the same after his loss.
He is survived by his parents, Debra and John, brother Christopher, his sons Arthur and Isaac, his partner-in-life Rebecca, and a myriad of best friends that loved him.
Rebecca would also like to mention her gratitude to the search and rescue crew and dear friend Dickie for their efforts to save and recover Matt.
The family will meet with friends Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South, Roy, Utah from 4 to 6 p.m.
