MATTHEW BRACKEN MCKAY
1981 to 2015
Dear friends and family-I need to share sad news. Our son Matt died in tragic accident Sunday, May 10 th . His funeral will be Saturday May 16 th at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary in Bountiful, UT near where he was born 33 years ago. He lived large and died in a moment after falling down a steep set of stairs at his mother’s home in Highlands Ranch, CO. He struck the back of his head on a concrete landing and died immediately.
Matt lived a vigorous life. He was an Army Ranger, and later worked as a loan officer in Phoenix. But the great outdoors and physical challenges were his passion. He loved camping and hiking whenever possible. He was a masonry contractor for a period in Colorado, and was home on leave from his career path position working as a certified “derrick-hand” for a company he loved in Williston, ND. He had many challenging responsibilities, including removing and re-installing drill piping on oil rigs. He loved his position, which was not for the faint of heart. His prospects were promising and he had much to look forward to.
Matt leaves behind a family that loves him all the more. He was the third child of our seven children: April McKay Anderson, Andrew McKay, Rebecca McKay Mitchell, Scott, Zach and Eliza Brooke McKay. His parents and his six siblings and their families, including Matt’s fourteen nieces and nephews, look to the day when all God’s family will be reunited. Matt will be laid to rest in a lovely cemetery in Salt Lake City. Keeping us in your prayers would be a welcome and very sweet gift in Matthew’s memory.
Love and best wishes, Joe and Liz McKay
