Matthew Stephen Nielsen

March 26, 1975 — July 12, 2023

Layton

Our brother, son and friend, Matthew S. Nielsen, passed away from this life on July 12, 2023.

Matt was born March 26, 1975, in Ogden, Utah to Michael G. Nielsen and Kathy (Grange) Galbraith. He attended school in Kanesville and Layton and enjoyed his time in FFA and mechanics training.

Matt was so very talented. He was a master carpenter, craftsman and could build or fix anything with his hands, that he had a passion to do. Many people have been recipients of the treasures Matt made, from tiny spinning tops to custom home décor, toys, banjos, rocking chairs, tables, benches, - the list goes on and on. He used these skills to be employed in the carpentry trade. He was particularly good at finish carpentry and many homes display his beautiful work.

He loved most being outdoors, spending time in nature with friends and family, camping, partying, just enjoying life in the present. He had recently taken up a love for snowmobiling (thank you, Ike). He was a goof and it was rare that he didn’t bless us all with his happy countenance, his smile and his giggle that no one will ever forget, brought on by the simplest joke or observation.

He shared with us his love of music. He helped expand our horizons by sharing with us his favorites. including jazz and folk and he especially loved outlaw country music. Matt wasn’t bound by the pursuit of earthly possessions and easily shared anything he had. He was a friend to everyone and loved unconditionally.

Matt is survived by his father, Michael G. Nielsen, mother, Kathy Galbraith, brothers Jon Nielsen and Tyson Galbraith, sisters Jennifer (Rich) Mickelsen and Michele (Ron) Flint, and many friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, step-father, Jerry Galbraith and sister-in-law, Stefanie Nielsen.

We will miss you, Matt, and know you are at peace. Fly high in your next adventure!

Friends and family are invited to reminisce and offer condolences to the family Thursday, July 20, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary at 3333 West 5600 South.
