Matthew J. Rasmussen

October 13, 1969 ~ March 22, 2015

“It’s not about what you have, it’s about who you have.”

Beloved father, husband, son, brother, uncle, friend, colleague, and outdoorsman joined his father and brother in heaven on Sunday, March 22, 2015 in a tragic accident while enjoying his favorite pastime; fishing. Matthew was born to Verl and Yvonne Rasmussen on October 13, 1969 in Ogden; he was the youngest of six children. He graduated from Ogden High School. Matt continued his education at Weber State University where he achieved a Bachelor’s in Physics and later went on to accomplish a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Utah State University.

On December 28, 1995 Matt married the love of his life, Stacie Stoker. Together they set out to raise their girls in a home filled with love and laughter. Matt’s greatest joy in life was his family and he always showed a fierce devotion to them. Matt was always so proud of all his girls and their accomplishments. Matt’s priority was spending time with his four daughters and wife.

Matt began his career at Westech where he was an exemplary Engineer who was passionate about his field which gave him the opportunity to travel the country. Matt was later with Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, where he happily worked for the remainder of his life; he achieved many awards, such as Employee of the Year and the 2014 Utah Construction and Design Award Winner for Most Outstanding Project.

Matt entered many fishing tournaments and fished throughout the Intermountain West, his favorite destination being Alaska. A few of his many talents included mechanics, cooking, design, golf, and of course, being an avid outdoorsman. He was thorough and meticulous in all aspects of life and strived for perfection.

Matt is survived by his mother, Yvonne; his wife of nearly 20 years, Stacie; his girls, Mykala (24), Alyson (18), Rachael (14), and Lily (8); brothers, Randy (Chris), Russell (Julie), Mike (Lori); sister Judy (Kelly) Maxwell; sister-in-law, Sandy; his in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.

Matt was preceded in death by his brother, Johnny; father, Verl.

Matt is looked up to by his daughters and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. The family, again, expresses their sincere gratitude to all the Search and Rescue personnel from various agencies, Box Elder County Sherrif, DNR, and all others that volunteered their time and resources to help find Matt.
