Matthew Thomas Woodman
1992 ~ 2022
Matthew Thomas Woodman passed away on March 19, 2022 at age 30. He suffered from periodic epileptic seizures, the last of which resulted in cardiac arrest. Matthew was born in San Antonio, TX in 1992 to Thomas Woodman and Vicki Ralls-Woodman. At age eight he and his family moved to North Ogden, UT, where he graduated from Weber High School. He earned an Associate of Science Degree from Weber State University, followed by a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from the University of Utah.
Matthew had an extremely kind, considerate and generous soul, with a smile and sense of humor that brightened the lives of those that knew him. He was selfless in his passion for helping others. He was adept at showing others a better way by example, and everyone that knew Matthew became a better person because of him. He refurbished donated bicycles to be gifted by a non-profit organization to those in need in Salt Lake City. He loved teaching kids how to maintain their new bicycles. He also loved teaching high school students and teachers from all over the country about nature, geology, erosion, the environment and taking care of our resources, while hosting them on a beautiful natural property outside of Moab, UT. He was extremely proud of the work he did in a home for troubled high school boys. He was a mentor to them, participating in outdoor adventures such as hiking, biking, snowboarding and swimming, as well as indoor activities such as skate boarding, rock climbing walls, movie theaters, and counseling and therapy sessions. He enjoyed the outdoor adventure opportunities Utah had to offer by taking river rafting trips, hiking the highest peaks, camping at and hiking many of the State and National Parks as well as trips to the backcountry.
Because of Matthew’s passion for life and love for others, he chose to be an organ and tissue donor and is now providing life and better lives to others as well as helping science and research develop lifesaving procedures.
Funeral services and a celebration of life will be held at a later date in Rockport, TX. Due to Matthew’s loving spirit, it is requested that random acts of kindness be performed in his memory.
