Maude Bowcutt Pistoia

We have lost one of God''s greatest souls today, October 19, 2011. Maude Bowcutt Pistoia has gone home to be reunited with her mom and dad, two brothers, and three sisters who have been waiting for this extraordinary woman. Maude was born November 2, 1917 in Collingston, Utah to Charles and Elizabeth Thomas Bowcutt.

She attended schools in Tremonton and Logan, Ada, Oklahoma; Stafford, Kansas; and Vallejo, California. She worked for the Naval Auxiliary at Mare Island, California. She was assigned to the Good Ship "Hope" during World War II. She returned to Utah and worked at the McKay Dee Hospital until 1963 when she went to work at H.A.F.B., retiring in 1993, not because she couldn''t work anymore, but because she said, "I am keeping a job from a young person who needs it more than me". That is the kind of person she was.

She supported the Special Olympics, all Handicapped Programs, and the Boy Scouts. Maude was truly "one of a kind". A feisty, spry lady with the sharpest mind, blunt tongue and unbelievable sense of humor. Always ready with a "keen observation" (I see you still have that big belly!) Kind words (What can I do for you?), and a great joke, no matter the occasion. She was one of those rare souls, who honestly saw everyone as an equal, no one being better or worse than another. Maude used her own resources to help everyone. She thought nothing of paying for a stranger''s school tuition or giving to neighbors after hard times or taking care of her family''s every need. Her generosity was limitless. She has left a hole in our hearts and the world has lost a great example.

She is survived by her two sons, Joe M. (Sandy) Pistoia and Steven Rees, grandchildren, Sadee Pistoia, Jodee (Danny) Lepelley, T. J. Pistoia, Justin (Katie) Smith, Tamera Martinez, and Amber McCollum, great-grandchildren McCayla and McCinly McCloy, Braxton and Bronson LePelley, Madysen, Baylee, Paytin and Cooper McCollum, and Kaestin and Kanyon Smith.

In keeping with her attitude to help everyone, she generously donated her body to the University of Utah Medical Center.

Services will be held at a later date.

A special thanks to Washington Care and Rehab for all their care of our Maude. Especially Sandy and Kristin.

Services entrusted to Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
