Maurice Samuel Thinnes

Maurice Samuel Thinnes, age 87, of Pleasant View, Utah, our beloved husband and patriarch finished his job on earth. He passed away at home on December 29, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones. He was born at home in Pleasant View, Utah, on February 3, 1930, the son of Zeno and Edythe Thinnes.  He married the love of his life Margaret Edsinga in 1954.

Dad graduated from Weber High where he played football, ran track and boxed.

Dad worked construction, drove school bus and worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.

In 1958 he started Thinnes Construction Company. His greatest joy was when his sons joined him in business. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, and farming. Dad was known and loved for his great stories. He would do anything for anyone. He could design, build and repair anything. He designed and built the family home. He was up before dawn and worked until after dark. He retired and turned the business over to his sons in 1995 but didn’t stop working. He ran his cattle and farm until he had to finally hang up his shovel.

Dad was on the Board of Directors for both the North Ogden Canal Company and the Ben Lomond Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Mitchell Thinnes and Michael (Sharon) Thinnes; daughters, Marjorie (Jeff) Watts, Melanie (Brent) Trimble, and Marilee Carreola; sister; Renee (Darrell) Dixon; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Cecilia Wardle and Dolores Olsen.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 10 a.m. at Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd.
