Maurine Robson Humphris
SOUTH OGDEN- Maurine Robson Humphris, our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully on June 11, 2011 after enduring to the end.
She was born on May 15, 1924 to Alvin James Robson and Leona Warner Robson. Raised in Plain City, Utah, Maurine enjoyed farm life, made life-long friends, and learned the value of hard work.
She graduated from Weber High School, attended Weber State University, and obtained Bachelors and Masters degrees in Family Life from Utah State University.
In 1946 she embarked on her life-long career as an educator at Central Junior High School. It was during that time she met and married her husband Joseph Aiken Humphris. They were married on December 19, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Maurine had a strong testimony and belief in the LDS Church. She enjoyed her callings as a Relief Society Teacher and Temple Worker.
Following their marriage, she and her husband moved to Denver, Colorado where she became a dietician at General Rose Memorial Hospital. They then moved to Reading, Pennsylvania and Tucson, Arizona, finally returning to Ogden, Utah where they have resided for the last 56 years.
Maurine loved to entertain and always looked forward to her Christmas open house. She valued family traditions, sewing, cooking, traveling, and reading. Maurine''s strong work ethic allowed her to achieve many things in her lifetime. Some of her key accomplishments include writing a cookbook entitled "Celebrate the Seasons", starting the Family Life Department at Bonneville High School, teaching at BYU Continuing Education for over 45 years, sponsoring scholarships at Weber State University, Brigham Young University, and Utah State University. During her continuing education days at BYU she had the privilege of working with Apostle Sterling W. Sill and LaVell Edwards. She was also the program specialist for Family and Consumer Science for the Utah State Office of Education, retiring in 1989. Maurine was a member of Chareya, Altruist and The Daughters of Utah Pioneers
Maurine was an inspiration to many after surviving ovarian, colon, and breast cancer and breaking both hips.
She is survived by her husband Joseph, her daughter Cynthia (Jerry) Auble, Roy; her son Jon (Cheryl) Humphris, Bountiful; her grandchildren William, Shawn, Ryan (Brenda), Angela (Bart), Marisa (Dustin), Braeden (Lisa), Casey, Alexa, and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Anna Jean, Sharon (Ron), and Mae, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Delbert, and brother-in-law Wayne.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 16, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary 3408 Washington Blvd
Family will meet with friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park 4500 Washington Blvd.
