Max Eldon Hess, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2013, surrounded by his family.
Max was born on February 27, 1921 in Bothwell, Utah to Alvin W. and Tessie I. Niles Hess.
Max graduated from Logan High School and attended Utah State. After leaving Utah State, Max went to work for the Department of Defense as a landing gear specialist during WWII. After his service, he was hired at Eastman Kodak in Hollywood, CA where he worked for 33 years in the chemical department until he retired.
He married the love of his life, Lois Brown, on December 15, 1948, for all time and eternity in the Logan Temple.
Max and Lois had four children: Steven P.; JoDee I. (David) Casdorph; Patricia A. (Terrence) Arthurs; and Vickie L. (Frank) Anzalone.
Max was a High Priest for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in several positions including Stake Missionary for four years in California.
He enjoyed woodworking and building miniature scale trains. However, his true loves were his family and photography for which he won awards for outside scenery photographs.
Max is survived by his wife and children; sister, Donna Ferguson; 23 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Max was preceded in death by his parents, brothers James W. and Niles U. Hess, daughter-in-law, Sharon K. Hess and son-in-law Robert D. Barker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Logan City Cemetery at 2 p.m.
