Max Dean Owens, 91, of Clearfield, Utah, peacefully passed away on September 19, 2023, surrounded by his family. Max was born on June 20, 1932, in Grand Island, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorant and Cleo Owens and sister, Joan Wallingford-Lamb.
He married the love of his life, Ruth Alder, in the LDS Logan Temple November 26, 1956. He was a loyal companion throughout their nearly sixty-seven years of marriage.
Max proudly served in the US Air Force, both in active duty and civilian service. After his military service, he opened Owens Auto in Clearfield, and ran the shop until his retirement. Max was known for his love of tinkering, teasing, and telling his favorite jokes. He had a passion for reading. He loved working on and visiting his cabin in Indianola. He lovingly served his wife and family up until the day of his death.
Max was an active and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved his faith and daily expressed it in word and deed. He passed with a firm testimony of His Savior, Jesus Christ. He and Ruth served two full time missions, to Nauvoo, Illinois, and in Armidale in the Sydney North, Australia mission. They also served two local missions. He freely served in a variety of positions within his wards and branches throughout his life.
He cherished his beloved spouse, Ruth, and is survived by nine of his ten children: Mark (Yvonne), Cathy, Richard (Nanette), Lynnette, Gail (Mike), Steve (Hongyen), Connie (Wayne), Dawn (Tyson), and Kimberly. Max was also a proud and loving grandfather of 22 and great-grandfather to 13.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd, in Layton, Utah. The family will hold a private viewing prior to the services.
In honor of Max, attendees are encouraged to wear Hawaiian shirts instead of bringing or gifting flowers.
Max will be interred at the West Point Cemetery.
