Max Ray Woodward

Max Ray Woodward, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, died peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in West Haven on Sunday. He was 87 years old.

A native of Neola, Utah, Max was born to James Albert Woodward and Dora Eliza Barnes on June 20, 1929. From an early age, Max cultivated a love for hunting, watching sports and reading. He participated in boxing in high school and enjoyed spending time mining with his son, brothers and nephews.

Max served in the U.S. Navy for four years and went on to work as an aircraft engine mechanic at Hill Air Force Base for many years.

Max and his first wife, Zora Pierce, who preceded him in death, have a son, Curtis Woodward, who survives both his parents. Max and his current wife, Beverly A. Woodward, have been married for 16 years. Max always made Beverly so happy, and the two enjoyed every moment they had together.

Above all, Max is remembered for his ever-present smile, unfailingly optimistic attitude and great sense of humor, all of which he maintained until the end of his life. Spending even just a few minutes with Max was always sure to brighten anyone’s day.

Max is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Zora; his sister, Ruth; and three brothers, Leo, Emil and Gail.

He is survived by his son, Curtis; stepsons Randy Wilde (Juana) and Kim Wilde (Judy); 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to give special thanks to Brenda Postel of Summit Home Health and Hospice for the care she provided Max at the end of his life.

Funeral services honoring Max will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton  Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
