Maxine W. Carter

Maxine W. Carter OGDEN - Maxine Webb Carter, 92, passed away on Monday, September 14, 2009 at home surrounded by family. Maxine was born in Ogden, Utah April 25, 1917 to Dr. Alma J. and Grace B. Webb. She was raised and educated in Ogden and Salt Lake City. She graduated from Weber High School. Following high school she obtained a cosmetology license from the Ogden Beauty School. She owned her own beauty salon in Ogden for many years. She married John W. Carter on January 22, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they cared for their homes, gardens, family and one another for more than 68 years. Mom was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband John, a daughter Susan (Doyle) Logan of Desert Hot Springs, CA; and a son Steven (Lynne) Carter of Ogden. John and Maxine have seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lyne Grace, a grandson, and a great-grandson. Mom had a sweet testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and shared this with the many children she taught in Primary and the young women she led in MIA. Mom’s interests included reading, genealogy, keeping books of remembrance and traveling to many counties of the world and throughout the United States. She loved people and their stories and had nearly a photographic memory of names and events. She loved ballroom dancing. Maxine and John helped to organize and participated in several dance clubs in the Ogden area. As children and grandchildren, we wish to express our deep love and appreciation to Dad (Grandpa John) for his loving care and tireless devotion to Mom throughout their marriage and especially during Mom’s age-related infirmities during the past few years. The family would also like to give special thanks to the fine professionals of the Access Home Care and Hospice and Peregrine Hospice for their wonderful care. Friends and family may gather on Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Emerald Hills Ward Chapel located at 5735 S. Crestwood Drive. Graveside service and interment will follow at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., at 11:00 a.m. Funeral Directors, Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
