Maxine J. Dayhuff
SOUTH OGDEN a" Maxine Janet Dayhuff, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, May 6, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Maxine was born July 11, 1920 in Syracuse, New York to Walter and Lois Wilson Wells, and was reared from a young age in Orange, California. Maxine has a cherished younger sister, Lois Joanne Smith (Pete), now of Minnesota, and they both learned the piano. Maxine attended Orange High School, then completed an associate degree at Santa Ana Junior College, where she was crowned Donna of the king and queen of spring celebrations her final year.
Maxine married Harry James Dayhuff of Ogden, Utah in Las Vegas, Nevada on February 1, 1942, prior to Harry''s deployment to England where he served in WW II. Following the war, after a brief time in southern California they moved to South Ogden and together reared five sons: James (Randee), Steven (Jamie), Jeffery, Timothy and William (Mimi). Harry and Maxine have ten grandchildren, Paul (Amber), Sydney, Heidi, Briar, Alexis (Eric), Michael, Emma, Houston, Courtney, Netti, and two great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Adelyn.
Maxine and Harry were active members of First United Methodist Church of Ogden. She and Harry were members of Beau-Bells and the Weber Club. Maxine worked several years as a den mother for the cub scouts, with the local PTA, and assisting Harry and his brother Ed in running their restaurant Rusty''s Drive Inn in South Ogden. She worked at the South Ogden City offices during the 1960''s. Maxine was long active in a local PEO chapter and volunteered at St. Benedict''s Hospital (Ogden Regional) for many years. She was a sweet, considerate and compassionate soul and will be dearly missed by all who have known and loved her.
Maxine was preceded in death by her brother Gordon at age eight, her parents, and her loving Harry who died in 2006. She is survived by her sister, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maxine loved outdoor activities and traveling, making many visits to family and friends all over the country during her life. She had an adventurous spirit that was ever useful in rearing five boys a" and her grandchildren. Her bright cheery nature, together with her sense of humor, endeared her easily to strangers, making her new friends a" all the while she cherished and adored her older friendships. She was blessed to thrive on the society of many diverse relationships.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1339 West 400 North (Pioneer Rd) in Marriott-Slaterville, (exit 346, 1-15). Visitation with family will be available Friday, May 14, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. and one hour prior to the funeral at the First United Methodist Church.
