May G. Duffy
May G. Duffy, 86, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at Rocky Mountain Care Center.
She was born May 28, 1923 to Johann Wilhelm Flathmann and May Gertrude Engel in Brooklyn, New York. Her parents died at an early age and she was raised by her sisters and her good friend Madeline Vilani’s parents until she married Thomas Morehouse in 1941. They were later divorced and remained friends.
Mom was once told she had gifted hands and they surely were right. She loved to sew, crochet and knit. She did some beautiful oil paintings as well as many handcrafted items. In her youth she was a roller skater and danced on skates with a skating club called the “ScatterBrains.” Mom always had a true love of animals.
She remarried Marine MSgt George E. Duffy Jr. in 1956 and relocated to Southern California. They resided in California until 2004 when May moved to Utah to live with her daughter Donna (Glenn) Clary.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband George, three sisters, Gertrude, Katherine and Mable.
She leaves behind a daughter Donna (Glenn) Clary, granddaughter Heidi Romero, great-grandson Dayne Romero, many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Friends and family may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at the Fairhaven Memorial Park in Santa Ana, California.
