Maynard Harvey Rasmussen

March 23, 1941 ~ October 21, 2017

Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Maynard Harvey Rasmussen, passed peacefully away in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, October 21, 2017. We know that he has returned home to his Heavenly Father and Savior and that they are very proud of him and the righteous life he lived. Even as multiple disease processes stripped him of his clarity of mind and strength of body, he never complained and always rejoiced in the gospel of Jesus Christ.  He was faithful to God and his family until the end and we are so proud of him!

He was born March 23, 1941 to Harvey Hans Rasmussen and Ramona May Talbot in Preston, Idaho. At an early age he learned the importance of hard work and devotion to God, Country, and Family. He served an honorable mission to New Zealand, where he developed a life-long love of missionary work and a sincere love of all people, everywhere.

After his mission, he pursued his studies at Brigham Young University. It was at BYU, that he met and married the love of his life and his eternal companion, Helen Joan Miles. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the St. George Temple on July 9, 1965.  Following their marriage, he continued his educational pursuits and studied podiatric medicine at the College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco. He graduated with his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine in 1972, followed by a residency program.  After graduation, he and his young family relocated to Utah where he began his professional career as a Podiatrist in Ogden. He practiced podiatry for over 30 years in South Ogden. He also practiced in satellite offices in Morgan and Salt Lake City. Throughout his career, he was an accomplished clinician who truly loved and cared for his patients.  As a businessman, he was always honest in his business dealings and had the highest level of integrity in all aspects of his life.

Besides being devoted to his career, our father was a devoted man of God. He spent his life in service to his fellowmen, his family, and his creator. He loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He spent his life in service to many. He served in many church callings and especially loved serving in the High Council and as a ward mission leader.  He was a man of faith, service and prayer. He was always dedicated to temple service, even after he lost his eye sight.

Prior to his own deterioration in health, he lovingly cared for his ailing mother-in-law. He demonstrated genuine love and tenderness to her as he and his wife cared for her in their own home until her death.

Throughout his life, he loved guiding the lives of his children.  He derived great joy and satisfaction in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments. He was a friend to all and had a way of befriending everyone he met. He loved the outdoors, riding horses, boating, traveling, all things mechanical, BYU sports, and of course the Utah Jazz. No one cheered louder for them!

He is survived by his wife, Helen, of fifty-two years and his five children, Rochelle (Robert) Rasmussen Goupios, South Ogden UT; David Rasmussen, West Haven, UT; Anthony (Emilie) Tsosie, Hooper, UT; Julie (Bryan) Hess, Boise, ID. & Jana (Adam) Carlton, West Haven, UT. He is also survived by his fourteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, his Brother Dallan (LuAnne) Rasmussen and his sister Eilene Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by his parents.

We will sorely miss our sweet, loving, kind father. He has left a lasting impression on so many.  We love you, Dad and we will strive to follow in your footsteps!

Our family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and aides that cared for him. A special thanks to Lea and Tony, his angelic hospice caregivers.

A viewing will be conducted at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S. from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, October 27. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28th at 11am at the LDS Chapel located at 4875 W. 4775 S. West Haven, Utah. A brief viewing will be held prior to the funeral services from 9:30 to 10:30.
