February 10, 1972 ~ April 27, 2022
On April 27, 2022, our beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie and friend, Melanie Clements Tupe, passed away peacefully in her sleep with her faithful dog, Cruz by her side.
Melanie was born on February 10, 1972 in Ogden, Utah, as the youngest of seven girls to Robert Leon and Sheryl Jean Champneys Clements. She grew up in the farming community of West Point and attended Clearfield High School where she excelled in sports. At 5’10” and an arm span of 6.5 feet, Melanie was a formidable power forward on the state champion basketball team. She also ran second leg in the gold medal 4x4 relay for track and was named MVP on more than one occasion in her championship fast pitch softball tournaments.
Melanie had a wicked sense of humor, a beautiful smile and outgoing personality that won her many lifelong friends. She loved the outdoors and had a sense of adventure. She was always very sensitive, caring, inclusive, kind, fun, funny, and was voted most wild and craziest by her peers.
She worked in Youth Corrections for Weber County, where she made a positive impact with her firm yet kind demeanor. Her greatest joy was being a mom to her four children, a second mom to her nieces & nephews, and wife to her husband, Jay. Melanie met Jay Tupe at work, where they fell in love and were married on July 22, 2000. They loved playing cards, going for walks, playing sports together and traveling.
Melanie was a Star Wars fan, she loved gardening and she was the embodiment of Spring to all who knew her. She had a beautiful singing voice and was known to her family as their "Little Songbird." She will be remembered for her light, her strength, her smile, her courage, her generosity, her kindness, her love for adventure and her devotion to family.
Melanie underwent two brain surgeries, back surgery and courageously overcame many other ailments. Although she lived with chronic pain, she did her best to show up and participate with a smile and good attitude to every family event. At last, she is free from the limitations of her body.
Melanie will be greatly missed by her husband, Jay of Ogden; children, Coy G. Huntzinger of Ogden, Brooke R. Huntzinger of North Las Vegas, NV, Kelsey N. Huntzinger of St. George and Madison J. Huntzinger of St. George; parents, Robert and Sheryl Clements of West Point; and siblings, Colette Clements of Mesa, AZ, Natalie (James) Masero of West Point, Rechelle (Jon) Sanchez of Long Beach CA, Stephanie Stockdale of Ogden and Rachelle (John) Moyer of Lehi.
