Melba Randall Brown 1915 ~ 2009
CONCORD, Calif. a" Melba R. Brown, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2009, in Concord, California.
She was born January 17, 1915, in Ogden, Utah, a daughter of Harvey P. and Minnie I. Randall. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1933 and attended Weber College.
Melba married Leonard H. Higgins on May 15, 1936 in Ogden. They had two sons, Walter and John. They later divorced. On September 1, 1962, she married Cecil A. Brown.
Melba was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She worked at the Ogden Defense Depot and at Hill Air Force Base for about 20 years.
Melba participated in the Lady of Elks and Does (Elks Lodge #719) where Cecil was Exalted Ruler. She enjoyed golf and bowling. Melba and Cecil retired to Martinez, California in 1976 to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed her flowers, and loved animals.
Melba is survived by her husband of 46 years, Cecil "Brownie" Brown, Martinez, CA; two sons, Walter R. (Charlene) Higgins, Copperopolis, CA; and John L. (Linda) Higgins, Orinda, CA and North Ogden; two grandchildren, Jim (Monica) Higgins, Lafayette, CA; Teri (Aaron) Choate, Southlake, TX; four great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jack Higgins and Nicole and Sean Choate; and her many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters, Tressie Burton, Viola Wangsgard, Myrtle Layton, and Stella Nye.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30 at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery.
Family will meet friends at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 10 to 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Melba''s name to any SPCA, the Alzheimer''s Association, or the American Cancer Society.
