Melba Hansen
Melba Donna Sorenson Hansen passed away December 15, 2007 in Bountiful, Utah. She had a long life of service to family, friends and her church.
Melba was born August 25, 1918 in Brigham City to Alice Maude Rosenbaum and Frederick Peter Sorenson. She had two older brothers and one older sister.
She married Cliff H. Hansen in the Salt Lake Temple on May 23, 1941. They have shared over 66 years of love and life.
Melba was a genius to friends and family in that she was accomplished in so many different things: she taught and played piano and was constantly in demand for both; she was an avid reader and was conversant with anyone about all good books; she loved the theatre and was always anxious for the “curtain to go up!”; she loved to write and work with the youth in writing and producing shows for church and recreation. She had several prize-winning road shows to her credit; she was a seamstress whose abilities enabled her to make clothes for friends and family that rivaled any of the professional designers. She created many designs of her own.
She attended Brigham City schools – Lincoln Grade School, where she was the school representative at the State Spelling Bee Championships, Box Elder Jr. High, and Box Elder High School, where she was the first female cheerleader in the history of Box Elder High.
She wrote and performed on many high school programs and was constantly in demand to help others hone their skills in the performing arts. Her ability to “play by ear” was a gift given to her by her father that enriched her throughout her life. She belonged to several musical groups, among which was the MacDowell Club of Salt Lake City. She attended Brigham Young University for one year.
Her father, mother, both brothers and her sister have been waiting to welcome her to their life beyond. Melba leaves a grieving husband; two daughters, Mary Catherine (Cathi), Elaine Holly; and one son, Cliff, Jr. (Roc). She has two grandchildren, Lynsey (Ben) Humphries and Collin Hansen; one great- grandchild, Joseph; niece, Melva Baron (Dale); nephew, Bud Siegfried (Margene) and long-time friend, LaNae Merrill.
Thank you to everyone and anyone who has brightened Melba’s life over these many years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E., where friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 PM and Thursday 9:45-10:45 PM, prior to services. Interment: Brigham City Cemetery.
