Melba Johns Shaw our cherished wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, age 84, passed away on August 31, 2013 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born on May 22, 1929, in Pleasant View on Pole Patch at the foot of Ben Lomond Peak, to Farmer E. and Sarah J. Johns. She was the fourth daughter of five girls. She attended Weber County Schools, graduating in 1947 from Weber High School.
On September 18, 1950 she married her best friend, Cecil C. Shaw in the Logan LDS Temple, together they had three children. She was a resident of Pleasant View for 72 years, prior to moving to Plain City, Utah in May of 2001.
While living in Pleasant View she served in many church and city capacities. She worked at various places, but her last employment was at the Internal Revenue Service, retiring in June 1989, with 26 years of service.
She enjoyed camping, traveling, and square dancing with family and friends. She loved to crochet and tie quilts. Her family and others have been recipients of her handwork. She loved to be involved in most anything and give her time. The children of her neighborhood always referred to her as "Grandma" and loved to visit and have treats.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, three children, Roger (Diana) Shaw, Peggy (Richard) Despain, and Sally (Tom) Dalton; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, one is deceased.
Preceding her in death were her parents, four sisters, and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
