Melba Joy Vanderwyk

LAYTON – Melba Joy Vanderwyk, 77, passed away Monday July 21, 2014 in Ogden, UT. She was born January 4, 1937 in Cameron, TX of Mary Lou Shaffer and Robert Halpain. She resided in Layton, UT since 1970.

Melba married the love of her life Johnny Vanderwyk on August 25, 1973 in Layton, UT.

Her favorite thing was going to Wendover, spending time with her family, playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, crossword puzzles, watching soap operas and gardening.

Surviving are her daughters, Jo Gutierrez, NV; Rita Miller, UT; Debbie Cantu, TX; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Donna, TX and Laverne, TX; and 1 brother, James, TX.

Preceded in death by the love of her life, John J. Vanderwyk, one sister and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
