Melissa "Mel" Hearst

Melissa Ann “Mel” Hearst

Melissa Ann “Mel” Hearst passed away on June 28, 2016, she was 56. Melissa will be remembered for her courage during difficult times.  Unfortunately, this time the pain was too difficult, and Melissa took her own life.  That one act does not define her life.

Melissa loved her work with the Forest Service and she loved the people she worked with.  She was an energetic, creative, and tenacious problem solver.  She relished her role in helping others.

Mel was a joyous friend and gathered people together at her and Dan’s for many evenings of camaraderie and adventure hatching.  She was an exuberant and enthusiastic river rafter and downhill skier.  The outdoors drew her, Dan, and their many friends to once in a lifetime experiences that will never be forgotten.

Melissa leaves behind her spouse, Dan Bauer; stepdaughter, Kelly; granddaughters, Ruby and Alice; siblings, Alice, Jonena, and Joe; mother, Priscilla; brother-in-law, Greg and family; mother-in-law, Del; nieces and nephews, and equally as precious as her human family, the black lab Brenna.  She also leaves behind a legion of beloved Forest Service colleagues, a family of co-workers at Powder Mountain, and friends who will always treasure knowing her.

No immediate service is scheduled.  A memorial gathering to celebrate her life with her family and close friends will be planned in the future. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.

Memorial donations may be made in Melissa’s name to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. http://afsp.donordrive.com/campaign/melhearstmemorialfund.
