Melita Delovina Chavez passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013 of a sudden respiratory medical problem. She was 91 years old.
Melita was born March 12, 1922 in Gobernador, New Mexico; a daughter of Ben Valdez and Julianita Vigil.
In 1946 she met and married her lifelong soul-mate, Juan Andres Chavez in Durango, Colorado. Together they had five children, Charles Chavez, TX; John (Velene) Chavez, Layton; Lewis Chavez, Nampa, ID; and Loretta (Neil) Lockhart, So. Weber.
She had great love for her daughter-in-law Melody Chavez. Melita had 10 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Melita lived most of her adult life in Utah. She was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five siblings, two daughters-in-law, Linda and Holly Chavez.
The family would like to give special thanks to Rocky Mountain Care Clearfield for the excellent care she received there. Also a very special thanks to the Hospice nurses who cared for her these past six months, especially Cici "Dizzy", she loved you.
Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 210 South Chapel Street, Layton, Utah. Friends may visit family Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
