Melroy Robert Vigoren

August 5, 1941 ~ September 11, 2014

“If there’s something you can get, I’ve had it, and now it’s my time to go.”

Melroy Robert Vigoren, 73, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2014 in Ogden following complications from diabetes.  He was born in Buffalo, South Dakota on August 5, 1941 to Leonard and Mildred Leines Vigoren.  He grew up in Buffalo where he was educated and later attended University of Illinois in Champagne.

He married Paulette Hazlewood on September 13, 1965 in Monks Corner, South Carolina. They lived in several beautiful locations before settling in Washington Terrace in 1979.

Melroy served in the US Air Force prior to retiring in January of 2001 from Hill Air Force Base as a quality assurance specialist.

Before diabetes had its way with him, Melroy was “Mr Fixit”.  He literally could fix anything from cars to refrigerators and anything in-between.  He loved to play pinochle, and beating his kids and grandkids at Sunday night poker gave him much delight.  He also enjoyed hunting, yard sales, and helping anyone that needed it.  Melroy loved to cook and watched the cooking channel religiously.  He spent most Sundays cheering on the Dallas Cowboys.

He will be remembered for his quick wit, being a friend to everyone, and for always being right.  Most of all he loved his family and especially spending time with his grandkids.

Melroy is survived by his wife, Paulette; children, Shelly (Shane) Smith, West Haven; Cheryl Burghduff, Camp Crook, SD; “Rob” Melroy Robert Jr. (Janice) Vigoren, LaVerkin; C.J. (Brad) Gibson, Croydon; and Sherry (Brody) Holmes, Salt Lake City; 15 grandchildren. brother, Vern Vigoren, Deadwood, SD; and sisters, Jean Burghduff, Camp Crook, SD; and Venoy Stafford, Scranton, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marlene Palczewski, and son-in-law, Rex Burghduff.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, Camp Williams, where military honors will be accorded.  Friends may visit with family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
