Melvin Ray Clarke passed away quietly at his home Oct 5, 2012. He spent his life on his family''s farm in Eden, Utah. He was born Aug 6, 1933 in Ogden, Utah to Francis Ray Clarke and Marie C. Bouwhuis. He was a Weber High School graduate and served in the US Army during the Korean War. He later became a civil servant repairing aircraft electrical components at Hill Field Air Force Base.
He married his sweetheart, Helen Joan Shupe, on Oct 22, 1957.
Melvin loved raising horses and competed in rodeo events. He spent many years racing in the Wasatch Slopes Chariot Association. He tried his luck at racing Thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed spending many days camping, hunting and picnicking in the Mountains of Weber and Cache Counties with his family. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Melvin is survived by his four children, Malinda (Paul) Lanier, Julia (EJ) Harris, Andrew (Theresa) Clarke, and Kimber Kendell; a Sister, Marilyn K Clarke; grandchildren Tiffany (Tim) Neal, Tyler (Tina) Perry, Thomas Perry, Christopher Lanier; Brooke, Courtney, Elise, Jessica and Justin Harris; Jasper, Gus and Chaparal Clarke; Nicole Kendell; step-grandchildren Donny, Michael and Christina; and great-grandchildren RayLee, Katie, Terani, Brooke, Aubrey and T.J.
He was preceded in death by his wife Joan, parents Ray and Marie Clarke, and granddaughter Shannon Harris.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Eden Mountain View Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the Eden 2nd Ward Chapel, 2900 N. Highway 162 in Eden.
