Melvin Andrew Heinbach

1922-2017

Melvin Heinbach (94) passed away peacefully on March 5, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home in West Point. He was born in Pine Grove, Pa. to Verna and Joseph Heinbach on June 30, 1922.

Melvin grew up in Pine Grove and after graduating High School in 1941, he went on to earn a degree from Central Pennsylvania Business College. He married Elizabeth McCue on June 30, 1946 in Tremont, Pa. They had two children, Holly Heinbach McIntosh and Joseph Andrew Heinbach. He retired from Hill Air Force Base in 1983 after working for 35 years.

His lovely wife, Elizabeth, passed away in 1998. He then met his wonderful companion, Joanne Higdon. They were “best buddies” for the past 17 years.

Melvin enjoyed bowling, playing bingo and watching the Utah Jazz. He loved taking rides with his daughter, Holly, to buy lottery tickets or just to enjoy the scenery. She was always so sweet to him and he always said how much he appreciated her.  His greatest joy was watching his grandkids and great-grandkids participating in all their various activities. You could always hear him saying, “I’m so proud of the wonder family I have.”

He is survived by Joanne Higdon, his daughter Holly McIntosh, grandchildren; Promise McIntosh Larsen (Matt), Misty McIntosh Bliss (Chris), Joseph Heinbach (Jodi) and Brent Heinbach (Shaunna) and 8 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth, son Joseph and son-in-law Larry McIntosh.

The family would like to express their great appreciation to Joanne for loving and taking such great care of Melvin. Her patience and devotion were truly endless, especially over the last several years with his declining health.

Private services were held.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
