Melvin DuWayne Krusell died at his home on March 11, 2013. He was born in 1945 to the late Melvin D. Krusell Sr. and Ambernel Mumford. He graduated from Clearfield High School and Weber State College with a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. He married Susan Collins and after living in Washington and New York, they returned to Utah. Mel''s career included Thiokol, Futura Industries, Cornerstone Nutritional Labs, and Sweet Candy Company where he retired as Vice President of Manufacturing shortly before his death.
He enjoyed the outdoors, his home, garden and family, travel, music and the arts, flying and repairing RC airplanes and his profession.
He was preceded in death by his step-father Max Wixom, and his son-in-law, Shane Krusell. He is survived by his wife, children Scott Thomas, granddaughters Sequoia and Chloe; Chad Krusell (Stephanie); Tina Parker (Dan), grandchildren Griffin, Zoe and Mackenzie; his dear in-laws VerDene and Ralph Collins; his mother, Ambernel (Bobby) Wixom; brothers Terry Wixom (Pam); Glenn Wixom (Cindy); Grant Wixom, and Bart Wixom (Patricia).
Mel''s family is grateful to Dr. Stephen Bruce, Dr. Carl Gray and his staff, Brenda and Summit Hospice, the patient-care staff in Unit 3 at Ogden Regional Medical Center, Sweet Candy Company, and Howard and Pat Preece for all the kindness, compassion and support. Mel fought pancreatic cancer as he lived his life: with optimism, determination, intelligence and good humor. He enjoyed life and was grateful for his good fortune. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.
Mel asked that rather than mourning his death, we celebrate his life. Family and friends are invited to do that at an open house Monday, March 18, 2013 at Roosters Restaurant, 748 Heritage Park Blvd, Layton, UT from 6 to 8 p.m. Cremation entrusted to Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
