Melvin Lee Owen, Jr.
OGDEN a" Melvin Lee Owen, Jr., 61, died Friday, October 31, 2008 at his home in Ogden.
He was born July 28, 1947 in Ogden, a son of Melvin Lee Owen Sr. and Shirley Arlene Young Owen.
On February 2, 1973, Melvin married Terry Palmer. Together they had two beautiful daughters. They were later divorced. He married Vicky Woodling on October 11, 1978. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Temple on May 10, 2002. They later divorced.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the High Priest Group Secretary in his Ward.
Melvin honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1968 where he received many declarations to include the National Defense Service Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars. He continued his service as a United States Air Force Civilian where his last position was a Project Manager for Civil Engineering.
He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He also loved hunting and camping in LaPlatte, and loved working with wood as a carpenter. He enjoyed anything to do with the outdoors. He loved spending time with "his girls", Chloe and Izzy. He was extremely good at "B.S."ing.
Surviving are his close friend and companion, Alice Hackney, Syracuse; two daughters, Jennifer Broderick, Ogden; Shelly (Brad) Clark, Clearfield; one stepson, Tory (Hilda) Woodling, Idaho Falls, ID; two stepdaughters, Paige (Dave) Pruett, North Ogden; Linzee (Vince) Nickerson, Brigham City; and 14 grandchildren.
Also surviving are his mother and step-father, Shirley and George Larson, Kent, Washington; one brother, Danny Robert Owen, Salt Lake City; sisters, Patsi (Jack) Miller, Clayton, Washington; MaryLou (Dennis) Richardson, Ogden; Shirley (John) Saunders, and Kathy Anthon, both of Layton.
Preceding Melvin in death were his father, Melvin Lee Owen, Sr., his brother, Michael Owen, and brother-in-law, Dennie Gehrig.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
Friends may call at the mortuary on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park where Military Honors will be accorded.
