Melvin W. Robertson passed away on October 18, 2016 of natural causes at the George E. Wahlen Ogden Veterans Home. He was born on July 15, 1920 to William and Minnie Robertson.  He grew up in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School class of 1939.  He attended Utah State University for two years and was called into the US Army with the Utah National Guard on March 3, 1941.  He spent more than four years in the Pacific and European theaters of operation.  He was in the 4th Armed Division and the 3rd Army.  He was honorably discharged on September 26, 1945.  After the war, he rejoined the Utah National Guard and spent 20 years in the Guard, retiring in 1969.

He lived in Ogden all his life.  He was a baker and retired at age 65 as bakery manager in Wangsgard’s Bakery Department.

He married the love of his life Mary Pilg and they just celebrated 70 years together on June 15.  Mel and his wife have lived in Ogden all their married life and have traveled the world, including Switzerland, Italy, Hawaii, and Mexico.  They have also gone on vacation to most of the states, attending his Army reunions.

His daughter Trish and Gary Sortland and son Michael and Teresa Robertson both live in Ogden.  He has nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10 a.m. Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
