Melvin LeRoy Rogers

Melvin LeRoy Rogers, 90, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at home surrounded by his family from a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born on November 24, 1923 to Orson S. and Lizzie R. Rogers.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ida Ellen Bond in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 23, 1944. They have been married for 70 years.
Their children and spouses are: Galan and Lorraine Rogers, Burley, ID; Blair and Janine Rogers, Pleasant View, UT; and Brian and Melanie Rogers, Farr West, UT. They have 10 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Melvin was a member of the Pleasant View 17 th Ward.
He and his father were the founders and operators of Rogers Poultry Farm (Rogers Eggs). He retired after 65 years serving many people in Ogden, Weber, Morgan, Davis, and Box Elder Counties.
He was educated in the Weber County School District, graduating from Weber High School in 1942, where he served as Student Body President, Drum Major to the marching band and on the yearbook staff for 3 years.
He served as Justice of the Peace for Harrisville City for 11 years.
While living in Harrisville, he served as Ward Clerk and 1 st Counselor in the Bishopric of the Ogden 15 th Ward and as a Stake Clerk in the Farr West Stake.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 70 years, his three sons, and their wives, all of his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one sister, Marilou Sorenson, Salt Lake City, UT; and one sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Ella, Irene, and Lillian; two brothers, Harold and Dr. Lamar Rogers, and one daughter-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery, North Ogden.
