Bountiful - Melvin Joseph Whitear, 86 passed away surrounded by family on February 2, 2016.

He was born April 17, 1929 in Ogden Utah the son of Loris A. and Pearl Welch Whitear.

He met his high school sweetheart who was a cheerleader while he played basketball in Evanston, Wyoming.  They were then married on July 1, 1949 in the Salt Lake temple.  He adored and loved her with all his heart and they spent every minute together.

Melvin entered the Army National Guard in 1948 and was called to active duty on September 11, 1950 serving in the Korean War.  He received the Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star.  He was honorably discharged upon his completion of diligent service.

He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting in 1957.  Melvin had a great career with Clark Tank Lines as the Vice President of Traffic and Licensing.  From family members to strangers, Mel was always caught teasing those around him.  It was evident he loved his family very much.   Dad, thank you for teaching us how to drive, for the skiing and sleigh riding adventures, camping, rabbit hunting, and trips to Bear Lake.
