MELVIN W. WRIGHT 05/13/1924 a" 05/25/2011
OGDEN a" Melvin "Sam" W. Wright, 87, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Coventry Assisted Living in Salt Lake City.
Son of Raymond S. and Florence West Wright. Graduate of Ogden High School, Class of ''42. Melvin enlisted in the Army at age 18 and served in Europe during WWII. He served with the 413th MPEG Company with an Honorable Discharge.
He married Myrna E. Roholt on June 4, 1948, in Ogden. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 23, 1964. Melvin was active in the LDS Church serving many years as a dedicated Scout Master and a Bishopric Counselor and Bishop in the Roy 3rd Ward.
He retired from Hill Air Force Base after 30 years in the Maintenance Directorate as a Workload Manager.
His children have many happy memories of summer vacations Dad planned. He supported and encouraged his children through their college education. He spent many hours in his yard making it look beautiful; as the neighbors used to say, "manicured yard". He enjoyed deer hunting with brother, Gib, son-in-laws and grandsons, while his Dad cooked chili at base camp, the Wright Family Cabin. Uncle Sam was loved by all his nieces and nephews. Had many friends and kept in touch with his extended family. After his wife passed away, he enjoyed RV''ing with his sister, Norma, and Tom and then lived in St. George for several years.
Surviving are his children Melanie (Jeff) Wheelwright, Mark West Wright, Mary Ann (Bob) Rackham, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and sister, Norma Buchanan.
Preceded in death by his wife Myrna, grandson, Todd Wheelwright, brothers Raymond and Gilbert, sister, Arvilla Child.
The family would like to thank Melvin''s caregivers at Coventry Assisted Living and Sunbrook Home Healthcare & Hospice.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1st at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd, Ogden.
Family will meet with friends on Tuesday, May 31st from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m., at the mortuary.
Interment, Lindquist''s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
