Merle Coffey

Merle E. Coffey

August 17, 1924 - July 18, 2017

Merle lived a long and full life and never met a stranger.  Clearfield, Utah was home for the past 70 years where he and his wife Carol raised five children, Merlene and Pat (deceased), Richard (Susan), Clinton, Karla, Clearfield, Kim, Great Falls, MT.   Additional blessings enhanced their lives in welcoming 14 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren with 6 great-great grandchildren and another on the way.

He was blessed with wonderful parents, Gladys and Bill Wasson and shared a strong bond with his siblings, Harold, Robert, Margaret, John, and Dorothy (all deceased).

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served his country proudly in Korea and WWII. He had a passion for singing and Barbershop Quartet, enjoyed camping, coaching his sons in Little League, and participating in Boy Scouts.  He and Carol were "snowbirds" after retiring from HAFB, until her death in 2002.  Spending winters in St. George for the past 15 years, he didn't allow his age or health issues to slow him down.

He belonged to the Clearfield Community Church and faithfully attended since 1947.  Upon the death of his mother he planted, cared for, and dedicated "Grandmas Garden" to the church in her memory.  In lieu of flowers, we would like to request donations be made to "Grandmas Garden" in care of CCC, so future generations may enjoy the peaceful setting and fragrant flowers as much as Merle did during his life.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Clearfield Community Church, 254 E. 200 S. Clearfield. Friends may visit family one hour prior to services.  Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd, Ogden.

COME AS YOU ARE...CASUAL ATTIRE REQUESTED.

The family would like to express sincere gratitude for every individual involved with Merle's care while in ICU at Davis Medical Center.  Your compassion, dedication, and love will never be forgotten.

Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
