Merlin Higgs

Merlin LeRoy Higgs, 92, passed away on April 25, 2015, incident to age. He was born February 25, 1923 in Kaysville to Clarence William and Pearl Higgs. He grew up in Kaysville. He was in the Navy during World War II with the Black Cat Squadron as a radio man and gunner. He received numerous awards for his service. His unit received a Presidential Citation for the most tonnage sunk in Japan. He retired after 30 years from HAFB.

On March 2, 1946 he married Phyllis Anderson in Provo. To this union four daughters were born: Catherine, LeAnn, Janeane (deceased), and Elizabeth.  On January 25, 1975, Phyllis passed away. In September of 1983 he married Trudy Poulos in Kaysville.

He is survived by his wife Trudy, daughters: Catherine Nielsen, LeAnn (Mike, deceased) McAdams, Elizabeth (James) Holmes; sisters: Jennie McClure, Vera Smith and Marleen Smith;  stepchildren: Kathy Ward, Michael Poulos, David Poulos, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, daughter Janeane Hovey, stepson Steven Poulos, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main where friends may visit with family from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.

Interment, Kaysville City Cemetery.
