Merlyn Rex Gibson, 94, passed away February 20, 2023 due to natural causes.
He was the last of seven children, born in Cardston, Alberta Canada to Morgan and Clara Gibson.
Rex immigrated to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1936. He went to West and South High Schools. He joined the United States Marine Corps, and served during WWII.
He married Donna Thorup in 1947, and had seven children together. Rex often had to work two jobs to provide for his family. Eventually, he became a long haul trucker, having a fantastic memory for what was located at every mile marker. Rex enjoyed the open road, and often said the view was never the same twice. He loved animals and going fishing whenever he could, and shopping for treasures at Costco and the Deseret Industries.
Rex is survived by his sons, Jack and Paul Gibson; his daughters, Sharon (Wade) Bevans, and Connie (Mike) Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Linda Gibson; and his son-in-law, Ed Lusienski; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Donna; his daughters, Cassy and Janice; and his son, Glen.
