Mike''s life on this earth ended on Sunday, November 15, 2009 when he chose to return home to his Father in Heaven and into the arms of his loving Nanny.

Mike was born on September 21, 1982 in Oakland, California to Duffy and Cecilia Dereta. Layton has been Mike''s home since 1985. Mike graduated from Layton High School in 2001.

Mike''s greatest joys in life were his children Brendan, Audrey and step-daughter Joclynn. He fondly called them his "honey''s". A big kid himself, his middle name should have been "mischief". No one loved a good laugh or a good prank more than Mikey.

Mike is a member of the LDS Church.

Mike is survived by his wife Jenny, and children Brendan, Audrey, and step-daughter Joclynn. Also surviving are his parents, Duffy and Cecilia Dereta and siblings Caryn (Joey) Lopez, Lisa, Ryan and Matthew. He also leaves behind many special aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends Rodney, Justin and the last person to extend his friendship to Mike, his friend James.

Mike was also a very beloved uncle to Joey Jr., Jenica, Jordyn and Jesse.

Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents Conrado Sr. and Carmen Menudiado.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 20, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. A viewing will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.

"Mike, may you find some comfort now. We will continue to love and miss you until we are together again. Be free."

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made under Michael Dereta for the care of his "honeys," at Barnes Bank in Layton.
