Michael Arthur Fielding age 78, Husband, father, veteran, and friend, died Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, following respiratory failure at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden Utah.
Michael was the only child of Wayne Elmer and Corley Arlene McCarthy Fielding, born April 9th, 1946, in Ogden, Utah.
Michael attended and graduated from Odgen High School, Ogden Utah class of 1964. He enjoyed R.O.T.C. and orchestra, becoming proficient with the steel guitar and string bass. He performed at the National Music Association Award Ceremony for the eight western states. He was thrilled to win the AAA trophy for his song, “In the mood”. For 2 years he performed with a 4-piece band earning just $15.00 per night.
Michael joined and served in the US Navy SeaBees during the Vietnam campaign. Petty officer Michael Fielding was stationed at Camp Kinser, Okinawa from March -Sept 1965 and Port Hueneme from Sept. 1965- Jan. 1966. He was on active duty with mobile construction battalion (MCB) 11 in 1965-1967. As a steel work petty officer 3rd class (SWE-3), he built barracks, large storge units, steel backed tents, repaired a major triage and field hospital, and reinforced the Danang River Bridge. While stationed in Danang, Michael earned a M-14 riflemen medal for marksmanship. While in the service he was awarded the National Defense service medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and FMF Combat Operation Insignia. Michael met and chatted with his favorite actor John Wayne.
In 1970, he married Shirlee Gene Johnson in Riverdale, Utah. He later became the proud father of four beautiful daughters. Premature daughter Donna Jean died at 6 months gestation after breathing for just 2 hours. Rebecca Lynn died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome at the age of 3 months. Rayna LaRie Reeves Taylor died July 2024 from complications of knee surgery. Samantha Corley Fielding Jaques lives and works in Riverdale, Utah. He was later divorced.
In 1994 Michael placed a personal ad in the Valentine Section of the Ogden Standard Examiner newspaper. Kendra Hale LaMar answered that advertisement. Their first date was on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. In April 1995, Michael and Kendra were married in the Bountiful L.D.S. Temple, Bountiful, Utah. She remains the love of his life. They toured extensively throughout the western United States. They especially enjoyed their multiple trips to the national Harley Davidson rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.
Utilizing his math and engineering skills Michael worked for Marvion Sign Company and Design Arts. He created and constructed high rise rotating signs used in major advertising campaigns.
He later worked at Hill Air Force Base in Ogden, Utah as a transportation specialist. In 2008 he retired. After his retirement Michael enjoyed volunteering at 7-11 where he maintained the coffee bar, met new people, and chatted with old friends as they arrived in the store. His daily walks became part of his morning rituals. Michael will be remembered by numerous friends for his countless services. He was a highly skilled fabricator, enjoyed creating and repairing any needed welding projects. He especially enjoyed snow removal on his beloved bobcat.
Michael has chosen to continue his life through organ donation followed by cremation. Michael’s ashes will be spread privately by his family. A memorial will be held on Monday, November 11th, 2024 at 6 to 8 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary. 3333 W. 5600 S. in Roy, Utah.
